Our Mom,
Lorraine C. Pauly, 98, passed away March 2, 2016 after a long life well lived. Born September 16,1917 to Louis and Elizabeth Schaefer. She was a loving Mom to Ronald (Barbara) Pauly, Kathleen (Richard) Sickels, Teresa (Duane) Sharrer, and Jean (Robert) Mellina. She was also a proud Grandma and Memaw to Kristine Sickels, Stephanie (Pauly) Colin, Karen (Wilde) Jaddemann, David Wilde, Daniel and Jason Sharrer, Great Grandma to Megan Colin, Zach Colin and Great, Great Grandma to Gracie Stowell.

She was married for 54 years to John A. Pauly.

50th Wedding Anniversary

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John A. Pauly, and daughter, Mary (Sonny) Isaak, brother, Louis J. Schaefer, and sisters Edna Tines and Harriet Ruckman, as well as many other extended family members.

Our Dad and Mom lived out their promise to take care of Mom’s mother by moving in with her parents & caring for her Mom throughout a long illness. After our father’s work related accident, she did whatever she could every day to make his life easier. She took care of their young children while still helping her parents. Our Mom stayed home to take care of us kids – each day when we came home from school we’d walk in the house and yell “Mom!” – We were so glad she was always there for us. Mom and Dad also helped take care of Kathy’s daughter, Kristine, when she was little. After our father’s death, she became more socially active at St. Simon’s Church, went on some trips, did more volunteering and helped to take care of her grandsons – which she loved doing. She was active in The Goldenaires’ Club, The Ladies Auxiliary, and The Widows’ Club. She volunteered one or two days per week up until a month before her death at the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. She loved all the people she worked with there and said she would have gone every day if she had a ride to get there.

80th Birthday

90th Birthday

We were very fortunate to be able to honor our Mom with a party on her 80th and again on her 90th birthday. She loved having family and friends visit and help her celebrate these milestones, as well as just everyday visits. She loved going to church, shopping, and out to eat with her best friend, Claudia, each Sunday. The times when Ben and Ruth Altheimer would drive all the way from St. Louis to take her to lunch and visit for the day meant so much to her. She enjoyed going out to eat or to plays with her kids and grandkids. She was a very social person. All of us kids and grandkids have many special memories of our Mom throughout our entire lives. We were very blessed to have spent several hours reliving many of those moments with her during her recent hospital stay. She was kind to everyone and continually amazed people by remembering things most of us had long forgotten. She was independent and strong yet thoughtful and loving right up until her death. We will miss her and her beautiful smile.

    Terri, Kathy, Jean,
I only met your Mom a few times but I thought she was a wonderful lady. She was certainly caring and considerate. She will be missed by many people.
